Meet the Authors

Laura Vican

My research interest is in finding the ages of the stars which host debris disks  in order to better understand how the material around stars evolve over time. I also enjoy making all kinds of delicious baked goods for those long nights observing on telescopes!
Siyi Xu
I am a graduate at UCLA working on white dwarfs -- the future graveyard for asteroids. I like to do all sorts of outdoor activities when I am not looking at the stars.
Li-Wei Hung
I study the chemical composition and morphology of the debris disks by modeling the spatially resolved images of the disks in infrared. If lucky, I will be able to pinpoint the location of unseen planets or find the traces left from the planet evolution process!
Shane Frewen
I'm interested in exoplanets around anything and everything in the galaxy, particularly evolved stars and white dwarfs. My current research focuses on exoplanets as a source of pollution for white dwarfs, which I'm investigating using N-body simulations.
Tom Esposito
My research at UCLA focuses on high-contrast imaging of circumstellar debris disks and includes infrared instrumentation.
Breann Sitarski
I am studying various hostile star-forming regions to determine how the environment of star formation influences the types of stars that are forming. This could clue us into the star formation history of a given region as well as place constraints on star formation mechanisms.
